چکیده
Loose sands (siliceous, silty, and calcareous classes) are extensively found near arid areas in Egypt. Furthermore, many geotechnical structures, like water channels roads, may be constructed on weak or loose sand soils. The behavior of is usually connected with different interdependent problems, such as high permeability, low shear strength, bearing capacity, seepage, stability. This work characterized the effect stabilization siliceous, sandy soils via biocementation process using Sporosarcina pasteurii bacteria a potential eco, commercial, engineering solution. was carried out bacteria, fixation, cementation solutions (BFC) at times number additions. results indicated that addition solution have remarkable physical mechanical properties also proved precipitation calcite by bacterial activity led to cohesion soil grains, this increased resistance deterioration. In addition, content precipitated calcium carbonate enhanced strength unconfined compressive decreased permeability. S. can used successfully commercially for siliceous sand, silty Egypt recommended conditions mixes.

As one of the emerging soil improvement techniques, microbial induced calcite precipitation (MICP) can bond soil grains together and improve the engineering properties of soil [1]. bacteria produces urease enzyme can catalyze urea to carbonate and result in calcite precipitation in elevated pH environment. The forms of calcite precipitation around the bacteria limit the availability of oxygen a...

In this study, five microbes were employed to precipitate calcite in cohesionless soils. Four microbes were selected from calcite-precipitating microbes isolated from calcareous sand and limestone cave soils, with Sporosarcina pasteurii ATCC 11859 (standard strain) used as a control. Urease activities of the four microbes were higher than that of S. pasteurii. The microbes and urea-CaCl₂ medium...

The role of microbial urease in calcite precipitation was studied utilizing a recombinant Escherichia coli HB101 containing a plasmid, pBU11, that encodes Bacillus pasteurii urease. The calcite precipitation by E. coli HB101 (pBU11) was significant although its precipitation level was not as high as that by B. pasteurii. Addition of low concentrations (5-100 microM) of nickel, the cofactor of u...

Microbial community diversity and heterogeneity in saturated and unsaturated subsurface soils from Abbott's Pit in Virginia (1.57, 3.25, and 4.05 m below surface) and Dover Air Force Base in Delaware (6.00 and 7.50 m below surface) were analyzed using a culture-independent small-subunit (SSU) rRNA gene (rDNA)-based cloning approach. Four to six dominant operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were i...

Desertification has become one of the main problems of human societies living in the vicinity of desert areas in recent years. One of the methods that have been considered in recent years and are rapidly expanding in the field of soil mechanics is the Microbial Induced Carbonate Precipitation (MICP). In this method, urea-positive organisms that are naturally present in the soil can stabilize th...
